COVID Layer: How Will The New Google Maps Feature Work?

In a blog post, Sujoy Banerjee, Product Manager, Google Maps, has said the app will have a new Covid layer. The users will have to tap on the layers button on the top right hand corner of the screen and click on the “covid-19 info”. This will show a seven-day average of the new coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in the area you are looking at. A label will also show if the COVID trend is rising or falling in the specific area.

In addition to this, Google Maps will also allow you to distinguish the density of new cases using colour coding feature. As per reports, the data will be visible for all the 220 countries and territories where Google Map is available.

“Trending case data is visible at the country level for all 220 countries and territories that Google Maps supports, along with state or province, county, and city-level data where available.” read the Google blog post.
