Jio To Non-Jio Calls Will Be Free From January 2021: Here’s What We Know Till Now

By on December 30, 2020 0 1767 Views

The most inconvenient thing for Jio users is calling non-Jio users. Currently, charges of Jio to non-Jio numbers depend on the recharge plans. What happens most of the time is that a Jio user exhausts his or her FUP (Fair Usage Policy) minutes before the validity of the plan ends. But this problem can end soon as Jio to non-Jio calls might become free.

What Will Be The New Plans?

Right now, the FUP minutes for Jio to non-Jio numbers are limited to a few hundred minutes. For example, the FUP limit of Rs. 199 pack is 300 minutes. Once you cross this limit, you will be charged 6p per minute for non-Jio calls.

But if the Jio to non-Jio calls become free, there will be no limit and no extra charges from January 2021.

Why Is It Happening?

Now one might ask why will Jio make its Jio To Non-Jio Callfree when people are willingly paying for it? Well, it is happening because TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has come up with an order that says that IUC or Interconnect Usage Charges shall be made zero for every telecom operator including Jio.

If the order comes into effect, then Jio will have to make all calls free. However, this might not happen if TRAI comes up with a new order or it just postpones the order of making IUC free. The order is supposed to come into effect in January and it is already the last week of December. As of yet, TRAI has not postponed the free IUC (Interconnect Usage Charges) order or it has not come up with any new order related to the charges. If everything goes on the same lines, Jio users will be able to make all calls free from January.

Till now, telecom companies have to pay IUC as a fee when their users make calls to any other telecom company. For example, if a Jio user calls an Airtel user, Jio has to pay a fee to Airtel for that call. The IUC right now is 6 paisa/minute. But with this order, there will no IUC paid from one telecom company to another and hence, all calls will become free.

Users are suggested to wait for around a week to see if all calls become free or not. We will update this news as soon as anything is confirmed.
