Facebook Redesigned Website: How To Get Dark Mode And Cleaner Look
With more and more people sticking to their mobile phones and desktop screen in lockdown, every social media company is trying to woo their user base. Foremost among them is the tech giant – Facebook.
The company was testing its new design for the website for a few months, and now it has launched the redesigned website in almost every part of the world.
On April 8, Facebook rolled out a cleaner look of the website and a dark mode. The new design was first shown to the world at Facebook’s F8 developer conference in 2019. Once the company made sure the people like the design, it started testing the new design, live of a few selected users.
Now, the new look and the dark mode is live in most parts of the world. However, it may take a week for some users to see the update.
What exactly is new in the look?
The redesigned look is somewhat similar to the mobile version of the site. According to Facebook officials, the new design will make it easier for users to find frequently used features like Videos, Games, Saved articles, Pages and Groups, and ads settings. Officials also said that they decluttered the scripts used to make websites, and now the website will load faster, just like the mobile app.
The feature that was most awaited by users all over the world is the new dark mode. The new feature will increase the readability of long-form text during the night and will reduce the fatigue in the eyes while reading the text. Facebook has also rolled the same dark mode for its messenger app and the direct messaging service Whatsapp.
How to get the newly designed website?
- Enter Facebook-dot-com in the URL box and go to the home page.
- Click on the arrow button pointing downwards, situated in the top right corner.
- You will see the ‘Switch to new Facebook’ button if the feature is available in your area.
- To get the dark mode, just tap on the same button pointing downwards and click on the ‘Dark Mode’ toggle button.
According to reports, the average time spent by users on all the three platforms owned by Facebook – Whatsapp, Facebook, and Instagram- has almost doubled since global lockdown due to Coronavirus.
In other news, Facebook has made a big change in its decision-making mechanism. The company announced a new oversight board that can overrule the founder and the CEO of the company, Mark Zuckerberg. The members of the new board will come from different backgrounds, such as public governance (a former Prime Minister), academia, and law.
