Apple MacBook Air, MacBook Pro with M1 Processor: What's the Difference?

The two most popular MacBooks – the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air – will now come only with Apple M1 chip. Earlier this week, Apple made the debut of the M1 processor, and discontinued the intel processors completely in India and partially in other countries.

M1 Processor: What is changed?

There are some minor tweaks here and there in other hardware parts, and, of course, in pricing. But the biggest change is in the processor. The officials at Apple have announced that its System on Chip (SoC) will increase the battery life by ensuring high efficiency. The new processor includes an integrated CPU, GPU, and a 16-core Neural engine. This neural engine will facilitate tasks related to machine learning and artificial intelligence.

The new MacBooks will contain an 8-core CPU with two types of cores. Four cores will be efficiency cores, and the other four cores will be high-performance cores. GPU for graphics will also have eight cores. The older version of MacBook with Intel processor used to have dual-core i3, i5, and i7 processors.

The four high-efficiency cores in the CPU will drive up the battery performance. While announcing the new processor, Apple officials claimed that the new MacBook Air will support wireless internet browsing up to 15 hours and Apple TV app movie playback up to 18 hours. These numbers have considerably increased as compared to the old MacBooks with Intel processors.

Pricing

With great power comes great pricing. The 256GB storage variant of the new Air will be sold for Rs 92,900 and the 12GB storage variant will be sold for Rs 1,17,900. The prices of MacBook Pro are also changed. The 256GB storage variant of MacBook Pro will be sold for Rs 1,22,900 and the 512GB storage variant will be sold for Rs 1,42,900.

Both MacBook Air and Pro, and Mac mini with M1 are available only on apple dot com for now. Apple Stores and Apple Authorised Resellers will have the new version soon.
