The lockdown and coronavirus have created trouble for all, and students are not the exception. Many are confused and anxious about their future. These are the crucial months when students take exams. All the major school boards are coming up with ways to complete the examinations that were left pending. Now, The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) has come up with a solution for Class 10 and 12 ICSE board exams.

As per media reports, the students can choose to skip their pending board exams. The final marks will be then based on their pre-board or internal assessment.

No ICSE Board Exams This Year?

After the decision came, many are feeling confused. Here is what exactly has happened.

A parent of an ICSE board student had filed a petition to cancel the exams due to the coronavirus pandemic. In response to this, the board has submitted a proposal in Bombay High Court. The board has given two options to the students:

  1. The students can appear for the rescheduled ICSE board exams.

Or they can choose to skip the exams and rather have their results marked as per their pre-board or internal assessment performance.

But, these options are not applied to all the exams. Only the pending exams will fall under these conditions. The exams that have already been conducted before the lockdown will be calculated as per the student’s performance in the exam only.

Also, students cannot make subject-wise choices between the two options. So if they choose to skip the exams, they will have to choose this option for all the pending ICSE board exams.

As per the reports, students will have to submit their options to their respective schools by June 22, 2020.

Will CBSE Also Take This Step?

No. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is not following the footsteps of ICSE.

It will be conducting exams in 29 subjects from July 1 to 15 and have already released the new date sheets for class 10 and 12 board exams.

The exams have been scheduled in a way that they will end before competitive exams begin. As per reports, engineering entrance exam JEE-Mains is scheduled to be held from July 18 to 23. The medical entrance exam NEET is scheduled for July 26.

Since March 16, the schools and colleges continue to remain closed after the lockdown. Now, the uncertainty is making people frustrated and many parents have filled petitions to seek directions for the pending board exams.
